Tree Trimming

Tree trimming in San Diego. Proper cuts, healthy trees.

Bad trimming kills more trees than drought. Lion-tailing, topping, and flush cuts look tidy for a season and then rot the tree from the wound inward. We trim to ISA standards: proper collar cuts, balanced canopy reduction, and clearance pruning that keeps trees healthy while keeping them off your roof.

What do homeowners ask about Tree Trimming?

When is the best time to trim trees in San Diego?

Late fall through early winter for most species, after summer growth and before Santa Ana winds ramp up. Fruit trees have their own schedules: citrus after harvest, stone fruit in deep dormancy. Avoid heavy pruning in spring when trees are pushing new growth. Dead and hazardous branches get removed any time, any season.

How often should I trim my trees?

Most hardwoods benefit from a light shaping every 2 to 3 years. Fast-growing eucalyptus, pepper trees, and elms need attention every 12 to 18 months. Palms vary by species, queen palms yearly, Mexican fans every 2 years. Mature oaks often need less than homeowners think, over-trimming stresses them.

What is topping and why do you not do it?

Topping is cutting the upper trunk or large limbs back to stubs. It's the worst thing you can do to a tree. It causes decay, weak regrowth that fails in wind, and permanent damage. Certified arborists refuse to top trees. If a company agrees to top your tree, find a different company.

Do I need a permit to trim my trees?

On private property, no, except for Heritage Trees in the City of San Diego, which require a permit for any significant work. Trees in the public parkway always require a city permit. HOAs in Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, 4S Ranch, and Carmel Valley frequently have their own tree regulations. We handle permits when needed.

Homeowners who hired us for this

Examples of the kind of feedback we work to earn on every job. Verified reviews from real customers live on our Google Business Profile and Yelp pages.

A eucalyptus limb came down on our fence during the first Santa Ana of the season. Branch Pro had a crew out within two hours, chipped and hauled everything, and the quote matched what they said on the phone. No surprise charges.

Emergency Tree Removal Carlsbad

Needed Zone 1 compliance before our insurance renewal. They walked the property, flagged the dead oak branches and the overgrown chaparral, and had it all cleared in a day. Insurance signed off first look. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Defensible Space Clearing El Cajon

Three queen palms and a Mexican fan that hadn't been touched in years. Crew climbed the fans instead of using a lift, left everything clean, and explained exactly how often each species needs servicing. Fair price, no upsell.
