Compare two written quotes

A tree quote is only useful if you know what it includes. Type two bottom-line totals for the same job. We match you with licensed, insured independent tree pros. You hire and pay the pro. That pro sets the price, scope, and availability.

This screen only subtracts the two totals you enter. It does not estimate market prices. Confirm both written quotes cover the same work before you hire.

How it works

How to compare two tree service quotes

  1. 1. Choose the quoted service. Pick the same service both written quotes describe, such as removal, trimming, stump grinding, or crane-assist work.
  2. 2. Add height and access. Enter your estimated height and how crews can reach the tree. Those notes stay with the job summary. They do not create a price.
  3. 3. Enter two written quote totals. Type the bottom-line dollar amounts from two written quotes for that same job. Only positive totals are compared.
  4. 4. Read the difference and the scope notes. The panel shows both totals, the absolute dollar difference, and the same-scope checks for the service you picked.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a permit to remove a tree?

Permits follow the parcel jurisdiction, the tree location, and any protected designation. A mailing address is not enough. City of San Diego street-tree trimming, removal, planting, and root pruning use a no-fee permit after City inspection. Report City-maintained trees through Get It Done. Power-line conflicts go to SDG&E. Other cities and unincorporated areas run their own public-tree and protected-tree rules. Confirm the address, tree category, and scope with that planning or public works desk before work starts.

Does a removal quote include stump grinding?

Treat stump work as separate scope unless the written quote says it is included. Grinding, excavation, chips, fill, and final grade are different line items. Agree on how the stump is measured, who locates utilities including private lines, and who restores grade. Grinding alone does not mean the spot is ready to replant. There is no standard grinding depth to assume.

What can this quote comparison tell me?

It subtracts two positive totals you type from written quotes. You will see each amount and the absolute dollar difference. It does not estimate a market price, rank quality, or prove the scopes match. A lower total is not automatically the better job. Read both quotes line by line before you hire.

How do I verify the contractor?

Look the license up on the CSLB license lookup. Tree work may be C-49, or an active legacy C-61/D-49 issued before January 1, 2024. Ask for the classification that fits this job. ISA Certified Arborist is an individual credential, not a state license and not a company listing. ISA's public directory can omit people on purpose, so a missing name does not disprove certification. If you need that credential, ask the person for their ISA digital certificate.

What should I do in a tree emergency?

If someone is hurt or in immediate danger, call 911. Stay away from a downed power line. From a safe place, call 911 and SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343. Do not wait to decide whether the line is live. Quotes and matching a crew come after the site is safe.
