Cabling and bracing is arborist hardware that supports a structurally weak tree. A flexible steel cable installed high in the canopy limits how far two leaders can move apart in the wind. A brace rod bolts through a weak union or split to hold it together. Done correctly by a certified arborist, it can extend the safe life of a valuable tree that has a fixable defect, rather than removing it outright.

A properly installed cable system can last many years, but it is not install-and-forget. The hardware and the tree both change over time, so periodic inspection is part of the system. We check the cables and rods on a schedule, look for tree growth around the hardware, and adjust or replace as needed. A cabled tree is a maintained tree, which is still usually cheaper and better than removing a mature specimen.
